I’m not sure what result I want – can you help?

We often face a situation when a client has a task they need completing, for example create 3D exterior rendering, but they have limited knowledge regarding the details of the project.

At Faraday we offer you a simple solution to this problem; clients should find inspiration by looking at pictures 3D exterior renderings on the internet and show these to us as their desired result. This enables us to deliver a greater service in a shorter period.

Let’s take a look at this collaboration to demonstrate.

What is “cool” and what is “beautiful”?

One of our clients was designing a big residential area with one-story and two-story houses, of the same design.

The client asked us to create 3D exterior rendering of two houses, with four photos of each. For us to complete this time consuming task we required detailed information and examples. However, the only information provided by the client was a map and a request stating “this should be very beautiful and cool”. The words “beautiful and cool” are subjective, to be able to understand what the client wanted we had to carry out several tasks.

What we did:

Firstly, we chose a camera angle and a house that we were going to picture. This was approved by the client.

We then created a clay model, to demonstrate how the house would look from this particular angle; the model was approved by the client. Next, we created another version from a different angle which was also approved by the client.

At this stage one of the most important questions appeared; what should we do with the background? Should we make it green grass without any detail? Is there anything in front of the road, close to the house or the pavement? We can’t leave empty space, as in reality there is always something close to the house.

We devised a solution; we did an internet search of photos of back gardens and downloaded 50 different images. We presented these to the client and asked them to select the image they wanted on their picture. We could then create a 3D model.

Let’s take a look at the original picture just to compare:

As you can see, we made this backyard a relaxed zone, we added children playing, sofas and space for a fire. Without these details the picture would look empty, boring, and lifeless.

Following this, we created a night time 3d rendering. This version was not approved by the client, (what to do in this case? We are going to answer this question in another article “I did not like a 3D visualization: what should I do?”).

At first the client liked the version displaying the relaxed garden area and the area, he also wanted to visualize the fire at night. When the client checked the image he pointed out the picture focused too much on the garden and not the house, when the house was what was for sale. To rectify this problem, we created a different night picture which featured the house much closer to the camera, a moon, a fire and an almost empty back garden.

Result: Having selected some options found on the Internet, we thought carefully about all the details, including; the landscape, lighting, people and the atmosphere. The client chose the most suitable version for his needs and also received some realistic, warm, cozy photos that met the needs of our client’s target audience.

So when you don’t know what want for your final result, browse through the internet for some inspiration. From this process we are confident you will find the best option which we will then use for your project.

What you need for the desired results:

  • Decide on the concept: for example, if this is a country house, where is it situated? What kind of surroundings are there? It is a house in the forest, in the city, close to the river etc.
  • Decide on the atmosphere: is it modern or an old fashioned country house?
  • Find similar pictures, photos or 3D exterior renderings from the Internet (the more images you provide the better work we can do for you).
  • Send your order with these images to us.

If you don’t have enough time or simply don’t want to do steps 1-3, we can prepare all the materials for you at extra charge. We will do everything we can to ensure you receive a realistic 3D exterior rendering!
